Description

Understanding Trauma for Students Survivors of Intimate Partner Violence: A Faculty and Staff Workshop in Recognition of Relationship Violence Awareness Month

A workshop presented by TurnAround

TurnAround, Inc (Resource Center in Baltimore City/County for victim/survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking) will facilitate a conversation on what faculty and staff can do when a student discloses sexual assault or that they are in a dating violence situation. Presenters will discuss the ins and outs of trauma and the effects it has on the brain specifically for student survivors; provide a better understanding of the warning signs of intimate partner violence and trauma in students; provide tools and best practices when assisting a student who has disclosed to you. These conversations can be overwhelming and tough to navigate; we at TurnAround aim to help you help your students in difficult situations they may find themselves in.

This workshop is intended to expand on the information and tools provided by the Women's Center in the supporting survivors section of the faculty and staff trainings all UMBC faculty and staff attended over the past year with a specific focus on responding to intimate partner violence (IPV) in recognition of Relationship Violence Awareness Month.

RSVP for UMBC faculty and staff is requested. Please respond by clicking "I can attend" to the myUMBC post. A light breakfast with coffee and tea will be provided to registered participants.

A full calendar of events for Relationship Violence Awareness Month which takes place throughout the month of October is forthcoming.
