Top Section labeled Pre-candidacy with 33 credits of coursework: The first stage is labeled “Pre-candidacy” and requires a total of 33 credits. This includes: 12 credits of required “core” courses 21 credits of specialization and methodology courses A comprehensive exam worth 3 credits Middle Section after completing coursework, students: Complete a proposal seminar worth 3 credits Assemble committee members Defend their proposal Students file for candidacy.
