Real People Profiles: Norman Crone
We're asking some of the people you might encounter on the UMBC campus, including students, faculty, staff and alumni, to answer a few questions about themselves and their experiences. These are their responses.
Name: Norman Victor Adjuter Crone III
Hometown: Pasadena, MD
Major: Computer Science and Vocal Performance (no relation)
A: One of my favorite stories to tell is how I got into (seb). On the night before my very first day of classes at UMBC, I decided to go to Big Crazy Fun Night. Being the proactive individual that I am, I ended up getting there about a half hour early. While I was sitting on Main Street, waiting for the fun to begin, I noticed a guy tying balloons to the rails. Having nothing better to do, I went over and offered to help. Little did I know that the guy was none other than Jason Palumbo, a member of the (seb) board. Thirty minutes later, I was running one of the games at Big Crazy Fun Night, and within a few weeks I was a member of (seb). The moral of the story? People do notice when you take the initiative, so do yourself a favor and step up to the plate.

A: Basically, I am a student, leader, programmer, singer, friend, and general nerd.
Q: What aspect of your UMBC role(s) do you enjoy most?
A: I most enjoy my role as a student. Whether it is about computers, singing, culture, psychology, philosophy, new languages (be they human or computer), or any of the many topics taught here at UMBC, my mind is constantly kept engaged and active. It is such a joy to constantly be gaining new insights and wisdom both in and out of the classroom.
Q: What is the most important or memorable thing you learned in college/have learned at UMBC?
A: There are so many different people in the world. Some of them are going to disagree with you, not understand you, or even hate you for being who you are. That is just the way of the world. On the other hand, some are going to support your efforts, reach out to you, and love you for the person you choose to be. The important thing to remember is this: don't worry about the first group, and cherish the second.
