Your 'Make UMBC Yours' List
Last week we talked UMBC Bucket Lists; now let's talk about some of the things we've already done here. "Make UMBC Yours" is a campus mantra. So how have you done it?
I've had the Forrest Gump-ish good fortune to have had small roles in a lot of campus-shaping activity. I was there when the first Homecoming Bonfire was dreamed up (by a freshman), helped students place black and gold banners around campus and a hydration station in the new Retriever Learning Center, and supported students in launching the Prove It! campus change contests. One contribution of my own that has stuck: When students came up with the idea for the original Stress Free Zone years ago, I was the one who suggested the name.
What about you? No contribution is too small: Designing your own major through INDS counts, as does holding doors open for the people entering buildings behind you (I feel better about the world every time somebody at UMBC does that for me). How have you made UMBC yours?
