Deadly Delusions: Fake News & Terrorism
Dr. Barry Mauer discusses his research on September 24th
Dr. Barry Mauer, Associate Professor of English and
on the faculty of the Texts and Technology Doctoral Program at the
University of Central Florida, studies how fake news and inflammatory
propaganda can incite unpredictable, but increasingly common, domestic
terrorism.
His
use of a comic book format serves to illustrate the often ludicrous
nature of some media outlets' "news" stories which can have a potent,
explosive effect on its audience.
This
event is sponsored by the Language, Literacy, and Culture Doctoral
Program and co-sponsored by the Center for Social Science Scholarship;
the Dresher Center for the Humanities; and the Departments of: American
Studies; Media & Communication Studies; Political Science; and
Sociology, Anthropology and Health Administration and Policy.
