Real People Profiles: Ben Goldberg

I’m asking some of the people you might encounter on the UMBC campus, including students, faculty, staff and alumni, to answer a few questions about themselves and their experiences. These are their responses.

Name: Ben Goldberg

Hometown: Rockaway, NJ

Q: How long have you been at UMBC?

A: It will be 3 years in July.

Q: What is your current title (job or student organization position)?

A: Acting Director of Off-Campus Student Services

Q: In 12 words or less, what role(s) do you play on campus? 

A: Developing community and creating involvement opportunities for commuters, transfers, and veterans.

Q: What aspect of your UMBC role(s) do you enjoy most?

A: Conversations with students and colleagues.  I’m always interested to hear different perspectives and ideas.

Q: What is the most important or memorable thing you learned in college/have learned at UMBC?

A: During my undergraduate years, I joined many different student organizations, worked different jobs, studied abroad, met as many people as I could and generally sought out new experiences.  By doing this, I learned a lot about myself and the world around me.  I would advise others to always be open to new experiences.

Q: Complete this sentence: "I am a big fan of __________"

A:  Sitcoms.  It is my favorite tv show format and I watch quite a few. 

Q: Do you have any UMBC stories, little-known facts about UMBC, favorite spots on campus, or anything else you’d like to share?

A: One of my favorite spots on campus is the student org space on the 2ndfloor of The Commons.  It is a busy and vibrant space and I enjoy eating lunch there.
