Job Offer: Tenure Track Literacy and Media

Vanderbilt University, Peabody College in Tennessee

The Department of Teaching and Learning of Peabody College invites applications for a tenure- track, open rank faculty position for an individual whose research focuses on digital literacies, new literacies, or new media studies with relevance to learning or teaching in formal or informal settings. We are looking for a scholar with a strong research program or a clear potential for one.

This faculty member will be expected to teach and advise in the undergraduate and graduate programs in Language, Literacy, and Culture. Given Vanderbilt’s trans-institutional commitment to issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion, preference will be given to scholars whose research and teaching explicitly demonstrate these commitments. The successful applicant will be expected to seek external research funding and develop research collaborations within and beyond the Department. Expectations include teaching courses and making contributions to undergraduate and graduate degree programs (e.g., English Education and Digital Literacies, Learning Diversity in Urban Schools) that focus on digital and multimodal literacies in in-school or out-of-school contexts. Applicants for the position at a senior level should have a continuing record of external funding. The Peabody environment is one in which collaboration is highly valued, and there are many opportunities to work with members of other departments.

Applications will be reviewed beginning November 16, 2016, and will continue until the position is filled. Applicants are encouraged to submit a letter of interest, their vita, the names and contact information of three referees, and no more than two sample publications electronically as MS Word files or pdfs to shawn.blomker@Vanderbilt.Edu. Materials may also be mailed to Ms. Shawn Blomker, Language, Literacy and Culture Search Committee, Peabody College, 230 Appleton Place, PMB 230 GPC, Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN 37203. The committee will request letters of recommendation and samples of publications from a small group of finalists. Prospective applicants are encouraged to visit the Peabody College of Vanderbilt University website at http://peabody.vanderbilt.edu/.
