HALF-TIME GRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIP for
Remainder of Fall 2016 and Spring 2017

The UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND, BALTIMORE COUNTY, Department of Education invites applications for one half-time graduate assistant position (10 hours/week) for the remainder of Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 semesters. The half-time graduate research assistant will be expected to work ten hours a week assisting a faculty member with editorial work for an educational technology and communications journal. Graduate research assistants must be registered as full-time students whether they hold a full-time assistantship or a half-time assistantship.  A half-time graduate assistant is therefore required to take a minimum of 9 credits of coursework each semester and will receive tuition remission for 5 credits each semester.
 
Editorial duties:
  • Extensive reading and reviewing of international research manuscripts
  • Editing research manuscripts
  • Monitoring manuscript submissions
  • Operating the editorial manager system that houses author manuscripts
  • Administrative support for various other editorial related projects
 
Required Qualifications:
  • A working knowledge of quantitative methods
  • A disposition toward research, critical thinking and following directions
  • Strong English language skills in reading and writing
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Full admission to UMBC Graduate School with a GPA of 3.0 or better  
  • Able to take a minimum of 9 credits each semester

Desired Qualifications (Please address these in your letter of application)
  • Knowledge of research methods (e.g., qualitative, quantitative or mixed methods research)
  • Ability to analyze and understand research
  • Administrative and technology skills

Compensation:
Students awarded a half-time assistantship receive a stipend, tuition remission for 5 graduate credits per semester, and an individual health benefit with option to pay additional to add family if needed.
