Real People Profiles: Lauren M. Hartsky

I’m asking some of the people you might encounter on the UMBC campus, including students, faculty, staff and alumni, to answer a few questions about themselves and their experiences. These are their responses.

Name: Lauren M. Hartsky

Hometown: Warwick, Cecil County, Maryland

Q: How long have you been at UMBC?

A: 4 years (I'm a graduating senior!)

Q: What is your current title (job or student organization position)?

A: I'm a Resident Assistant, the National Residence Hall Honorary Chapter President, and the Resident Student Association Director of Service and Recognition

Q: In 12 words or less, what role(s) do you play on campus?

A: An advocate for challenging the status quo

Q: What aspect of your UMBC role(s) do you enjoy most?

A: When I can make someone's day by recognizing them with a simple smile and hello

Q: What is the most important or memorable thing you learned in college/have learned at UMBC?

A: Nothing is impossible if you are willing to sacrifice and put your heart into everything that you do...you will succeed

Q: Complete this sentence: "I am a big fan of __________"

A: Hanging out on Saturday night with my best friends for hours

Q: Do you have any UMBC stories, little-known facts about UMBC, favorite spots on campus, or anything else you’d like to share?

A: I still remember "Outtakes" in the Dining Hall being called the "spot".  It was literally the size of a walk in closet and you had just enough room to walk shoulder to shoulder.  On Sunday nights, the line would be so long it was outside the door as people used their late night meals.  I miss the "spot" because it had so much character and everyone called it that.  It seems strange to me to hear residents called it "outtakes" now, it just isn't the same.
