Real People Profiles: Brandon Enriquez

We're asking some of the people you might encounter on the UMBC campus, including students, faculty, staff and alumni, to answer a few questions about themselves and their experiences. These are their responses.

Name: Brandon Enriquez

Hometown: Takoma Park, MD

Major: I'm doing an econ/math double-major.

Q: How long have you been at UMBC?

A: This is my third semester here at UMBC.

Q: What is your current title (job or student organization position)?

A: Co-president, UMBC TED Club
Co-president, UMBC College Democrats
Meyerhoff Scholar
Honors College member

Q: In 12 words or less, what role(s) do you play on campus?

A: Politics-lover, number-cruncher, piano-player, and fan of Chinese food.

Q: What aspect of your UMBC role(s) do you enjoy most?

A: I love how open all students and faculty are here at UMBC. People truly care about each other’s success, and that creates an environment where we all succeed. I’ve found that people are always willing to help one another. Unlike many other colleges, we can be proud that our UMBC community is actually a community, where all are invested in the success of their colleagues.

Q: What is the most important or memorable thing you learned in college/have learned at UMBC?

A: It’s important to collaborate with others. This was a point that was really driven home to me at STRiVE this past year. Everyone has their weaknesses, and we can’t all be strong in every single area. However, when we all rely on others to fill our weaknesses, powerful change can result.

Q: What is one way you have worked with others to make a positive difference at UMBC or in another community?

A: I co-founded the UMBC TED Club this past spring with a friend. TED is a nonprofit dedicated to giving individuals from a variety of backgrounds a platform to spread ideas. We noticed that TED did not have as much of a presence on campus as it should have, and we felt that all students would benefit from exploring new ideas through TED talks.

Q: Complete this sentence: "I am a big fan of __________"

A: The Baltimore Orioles!

Q: Do you have any UMBC stories, little-known facts about UMBC, favorite spots on campus, or anything else you’d like to share?

A: My favorite spot on campus has to be the Commons. They have a nice variety of food.

And, the sixth floor of the library is a great place for a quick nap!
