Real People Profiles: Sydne Arnold

Major: Biology (B.A.).
A: 3 Things a UMBC student should know:
STRiVE leadership retreats are so worthwhile they should be mandatory (Apply for it asap!), there is always an a event happening somewhere on campus with free stuff (food, t-shirts, giveaways!), and be prepared when it rains; the puddles are like mini lakes!

Q: How long have you been at UMBC?
A: This is my 3rd Semester at UMBC.
Q: What is your current title (job or student organization position)?
A: I'm a Student Ambassador for Student Life, a member of the Community Action Team for Patapsco Hall and a member of the UMBC Gospel Choir.
Q: In 12 words or less, what role(s) do you play on campus?
A: Leader, Friend, and Student who makes the most out of everyday! 🙂 #EagerRetriever
Q: What aspect of your UMBC role(s) do you enjoy most?
A: I love being an on-campus student and investing into what UMBC offers. There is almost always something to do whether it's catching up with friends or trying out a new fitness class in the RAC or having a mandatory study sesh for that exam next week. I enjoy it all!
Q: What is the most important or memorable thing you learned in college/have learned at UMBC?
A: I've only experienced one year at UMBC and I would say it has definitely been impactful. College has taught me to challenge myself, take risks, and just have fun. I've found it very rewarding to go outside of my comfort zone; I've met a lot of awesome people and had so many positive, meaningful experiences at UMBC and I wouldn't be who I am today without them and I definitely look forward to more! If you're reading this, I encourage you to be open-minded and optimistic because you never know who you might encounter or what amazing opportunities might come your way!
Q: What is one way you have worked with others to make a positive difference at UMBC or in another community?
A: As a freshman last year, I knew I wanted to get involved, so I joined CAB. I was able to work with a team of my co-residents and we were able to put on events that showcased our community. From joining CAB, I learned that it's really easy to get together and have a good time. This matters because you never know whose day you might make or who is going to be encouraged to try something different and really enjoy it!
