Best of UMBC 2014

by Craig Berger and David Hoffman

Let's crowdsource a list of some of the best activities, courses, dining options, places, hidden resources, musical groups, etc. at UMBC. "Best" is entirely a matter of opinion, of course, but here's a chance to share your own and discover others'. The format is: Make up three categories and name UMBC's "best" in each category.

Craig's "Best of UMBC" List:

  • Best Course: Civic Agency and Social Entrepreneurship (POLI/AMST/SOCY 205)
  • Best Welcome Week Activity: Convocation (including the walk there!)
  • Best Dessert in the Skylight Room: Banana Cream Pudding/Pie (whatever it is, it is topped with vanilla wafers and delicious)
David's "Best of UMBC" List:
  • Best Emergent UMBC Network: The rapidly growing coalition of students, faculty and staff members doing creative work around food systems and food justice.
  • Best Stairwell: There are so many good ones, indoors and out; some gorgeous, others merely convenient and tucked away. But my favorite ascends from the UC Plaza, past the Meyerhoff, Fine Arts and ECS buildings (and one of the oldest public art pieces on campus), then past one of the three Retriever Project statues toward the Performing Arts & Humanities Building's side door.
  • Best Perk of being a Member of the UMBC Community: Access to the Albin O. Kuhn Library's collection of books, journals, online subscriptions, DVDs ...
Your turn!
