Real People Profiles: Josh Massey

We're asking some of the people you might encounter on the UMBC campus, including students, faculty, staff and alumni, to answer a few questions about themselves and their experiences. These are their responses.

Name: Josh Massey

Hometown: Baltimore, MD

Major: Interdisciplinary Studies: Leadership Development & Social Entrepreneurship

Q: How long have you been at UMBC?

A: 3 Years

Q: What is your current title (job or student organization position)?

A: On campus, I am the VP of INDS CoM, an active member of the Entrepreneurship community, and a founding member of Banana Bones (more than just a campus navigation app, coming soon).

I am also the team lead for a social project called Cleats For Bare Feet.

Q: In 12 words or less, what role(s) do you play on campus?

A: Student & dedicated member of UMBC, trying to make campus even better.

Q: What aspect of your UMBC role(s) do you enjoy most?

A: I love learning new things, meeting new people, and and being a part of a community that is doing incredible things.

Q: What is the most important or memorable thing you learned in college/have learned at UMBC?

A: College is all about learning how to think, but it is also about developing relationships. Get out there, meet people: Join clubs, get to know your classmates...and professors. Everyone has something to offer, but you have to be willing to get to know them first. You never know where the people you meet today will be 10 years from now. "Future you" will thank "present you" for getting out there.

Q: Complete this sentence: "I am a big fan of __________"

A: Coffee & wearing sandals, even in the winter...even to weddings.

Q: Do you have any UMBC stories, little-known facts about UMBC, favorite spots on campus, or anything else you’d like to share?

A: There are many fun places on campus if you are willing to go off the beaten path. Personally, I love the Starbucks on campus and am there way too often. But sometimes I need a quiet, outside place to study. I may regret putting this out there, but my favorite spot is up the steps that no one ever uses next to the Meyerhoff lecture hall. Do yourself the favor and wander around.
