Civic Engagement & Leadership Internship (Apply by April 17th)

by David Hoffman

Have you participated in a leadership development program or course at UMBC? Would you like to help create and facilitate those programs for other UMBC students? Here's your opportunity: The Office of Student Life is hiring an Intern for Civic Engagement and Leadership for 2013-2014 (application form). This will be a valuable pre-professional work opportunity that will help you build your planning, facilitation and leadership skills.

The Civic Engagement and Leadership Intern will be responsible for:

  • facilitating the meetings and development of the First Year Council
  • assisting in the coordination and marketing of LeadingOrgs (September), the STRiVE Leadership Retreat (January) and Celebrate Black & Gold (May), which will include working with Student Life staff to update curriculum, brainstorm logistics and manage preparation and on-site needs
  • contributing to and coordinating Leadership Advisory Committee meetings; and
  • creating online media content (Twitter, myUMBC, #UMBC30DayChallenge)

The Intern will work approximately 8 hours/week for $7.25/hour. Hours are flexible and dependent on the Intern's schedule.

Because we want someone who can draw upon personal experiences, we're especially interested in applications from students who have participated in an Office of Student Life-supported leadership program.

The application deadline is Wednesday, April 17th.
