Real People Profiles: Abigail Israel-Eledan

We're asking some of the people you might encounter on the UMBC campus, including students, faculty, staff and alumni, to answer a few questions about themselves and their experiences. These are their responses.

Name: Abigail Israel-Eledan

Hometown: Bowie, MD

Q: How long have you been at UMBC?

A: Since Spring 2011, so I am a junior this semester.

Q: What is your current title (job or student organization position)?

A: A member of the SGA Financial Support Team, Event Manager at UMBC Events, Treasurer of Economics Council of Majors, Secretary of the Investing and Trading Club, Secretary of UMBC Women's Rugby Club, Member of President's Commission for Women

Q: In 12 words or less, what role(s) do you play on campus?

A: I am a student, friend and also a liaison between student organizations, Finance Board, and the SGA Treasurer.

Q: What aspect of your UMBC role(s) do you enjoy most?

A:  What I like the most about my roles on campus is that I get to meet new and interesting people on a daily basis and build relationships with student organizations through my work with the SGA. Also, the ability to work independently and with people like Jackie Aliotta, Drema Wentz, and Chisom Ebinama that care about what they do.

Q: What is the most important or memorable thing you learned in college/have learned at UMBC?

A: The most memorable thing I have learned in college/UMBC is how to use the knowledge attained in my undergraduate studies and apply them to real-life situations. It has helped me enhance my leadership and relational skills as well as my competence in solving problems, in making decisions, and in being a team player. In retrospect, my leadership roles in student government and other community groups validate my claims.

Q: Complete this sentence: "I am a big fan of __________"

A: Rugby, virtual trading games, Scandal (best TV show), and Sherlock Holmes.

Q: Do you have any UMBC stories, little-known facts about UMBC, favorite spots on campus, or anything else you’d like to share?

A: After being at UMBC for two and a half years, I must say my favorite spot on campus is The Commons because it is always lively and you can certainly see how diverse UMBC is. The Second (Honors Lounge) and Third Floor of the Library are also places I like to go when I have a little down time. There are always free food events on campus, from departmental events to (seb)-sponsored events (Breakfast & Bingo, Free Wings, etc.). A little known fact about UMBC that I discovered through my Science 100 class is that the UMBC campus contains four arms of the Herbert Run--all which join in the southern border of the campus. There is also a .6 mile interactive trail, named CERA, by the Research Park.
