Press: BreakingGround got some great press this week, including an op-ed in the Baltimore Sun; the "Campus Spotlight" feature on the American Democracy Project blog; and the lead story in The Retriever Weekly.

Stories: The past week's BreakingGround posts featured UMBC graduate student and Shriver Center Peaceworker Charlotte Keniston's food justice initiative, and UMBC archivist Lindsey Loeper's reflections on using campus history as a platform for shaping its future.

Opportunities: The blog also featured several opportunities to get connected and make a difference.

• Know a staff member who has made a significant contribution to the quality of life at UMBC or in communities beyond the campus? Submit a nomination for a University System of Maryland Board of Regents Award. Deadline: 9/14.
• Campus departments and organizations can apply for grants to transform one-time service projects into opportunities for participants to make sustained contributions to the campus or surrounding community. The first deadline: 9/30.
• UMBC is co-sponsoring an international conference on service learning and civic engagement, to be held in Baltimore later this month.
• Faculty members with innovative ideas for increasing student success can apply for grants from the new Hrabowski Fund for Academic Innovation. The first deadline: 10/5.
• Finally, Involvement Fest has already happened, but the promotional video is still worth a look.
