What is Sociology's Role in Responding to Inequality? Four New Critiques
Wed, Jun 8, 2022, 1:00 PM ET

The recent special collection of Socius:  Sociological Research for a Dynamic World began with a question:  "If research is to make a difference in reducing inequality...how?"

Offering new perspectives on ways that sociology can do more to drive large-scale social change, four new commentaries reconsider this question. Commentary authors Michelle Jackson (Stanford University), Cecilia Menjivar (UCLA, and President of the American Sociological Association), Elizabeth Birr Moje (University of Michigan), and Herman G. van de Werfhorst (University of Amsterdam and the Amsterdam Centre for Inequality Studies) outline potential strategies for the field, including remaking research tools, incorporating theory and social-political contexts, learning from scholarship across disciplines and policy areas, and building a social science of radical reform.

Join us for a webinar on June 8th, where we will be joined by special collection authors and commentary writers to consider the state of the field and identify ways for sociology to move from understanding the problem of inequality to illuminating responses.
