Amidst Great Change:  Why a Career in the Arts, Humanities, or Social Sciences is Rewarding and Valuable.

A Conversation Moderated by Charles "Tot" Woolston, Vice-Provost Emeritus

The pandemic has changed almost every aspect of life, especially in the economic and career landscapes. People are thinking about their professional choices with a new lens to ensure they select careers that offer what they may believe to be a stable and secure future. Some may wonder if a degree in the social sciences, arts, and/or humanities will give them this security.

Join us for the CAHSS Spring Spotlight Virtual Event on Wednesday, April 14 from 4:30–5:30 p.m. for this timely conversation featuring CAHSS-affiliated faculty who will share their thoughts on why having or pursuing a degree in these areas is still so important. The panel will feature:

  • Ana Maria Schwartz Caballero, Associate Professor of Spanish and Second Language Education, Modern Languages and Linguistics, and Intercultural Communication
  • Vin Grabill, Associate Professor Emeritus of Cinematic Arts, Visual Arts
  • Nancy Miller, Professor and Director of the School of Public Policy, Affiliate Professor of the Doctoral Program in Gerontology
  • Derek Musgrove, Associate Professor of History, Affiliate Professor of Africana Studies
  • Jason Schiffman, Professor of Psychology
  • Charles “Tot” Woolston, Vice Provost Emeritus, UMBC, moderator

This event is sponsored by UMBC’s Alumni Association, and is open to the general public.
