This month's discussion will be led by Dr. Danyelle Ireland, Associate Director of CWIT. Dr. Ireland is adapting a past CWIT Impact Statement for this special Women in STEM discussion series. Read on for more details!

(Beyond) Diversity in Technology -- The Facts, Issues, & Possibilities:
This workshop provides an overview of the status of women and people from underrepresented racial-ethnic minority groups in computing and engineering at UMBC and in the United States more broadly. Dr. Ireland will lead an interactive discussion on issues concerning "diversity" and inclusion in tech education as well as the opportunities for broadening participation in tech fields. Additionally, Dr. Ireland will share insights from psychological research on social identity, motivation, and achievement among underrepresented students in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields. Workshop attendees are invited to contribute their perspectives and experiences on these topics as members or allies of underrepresented groups in STEM fields.

Lunch will be provided during this discussion. Please RSVP below so we can make sure we have enough food for you!

This event is part of the Women's Center's Women in STEM Discussion Series. Each discussion group will take place on the 2nd Friday of each month at noon during the spring semester. Guest facilitators (staff and faculty in STEM fields at UMBC) change each month.
