Date & Time

November 30, 2017, 12:00 pm1:00 pm

Description

Join the Women's Center and We Believe You for a workshop in Commons 331 on how you can better support survivors of sexual violence.

We often have questions about how to best support friends and peers who have experienced sexual assault and interpersonal violence. What do we say? What do we not say? Most importantly, how can we build trust and help empower survivors and create a survivor-responsive campus community?

This workshop will address common questions, challenges, and best practices for directly and indirectly supporting survivors of sexual violence. The majority of the workshop will focus on the best ways to respond sensitively and effectively to survivors who are experiencing an immediate crisis or ongoing trauma.

This workshop is usually 75 minutes long so this session will be condensed.  Workshop material will be covered from 12-12:45pm with a 15 Q&A. Presenters can be available for follow-up questions and concerns.

We Believe You is a new and upcoming student org at UMBC dedicated to bringing awareness about sexual violence and support for survivors. While this group is still seeking formal recognition at UMBC, group leaders are creating spaces for students to learn more about the goals of the group and to move forward with next steps once they gain formal recognition as a student org.
