Description

The Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) was set aside to memorialize those killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice. The event is held in November to honor Rita Hester, whose murder on November 28th, 1998 kicked off the “Remembering Our Dead” web project and a San Francisco candlelight vigil in 1999. Rita Hester’s murder — like most anti-transgender murder cases — has yet to be solved.

All members of the UMBC community are invited to attend this panel discussion, led by trans and gender non-conforming UMBC students. The panelists will share their experiences and provide a space for Q&A about the experiences of trans, GNC, and gender questioning students on campus.

***********************
Education and awareness-building are important components of the efforts to end anti-transgender violence. Engage in this discussion to memorialize those who have been lost.

Honor their legacy by working towards a better future.
