Día de Los Muertos with The Mosaic Center and the Women's, Gender, and Equity Center

Thursday, October 29, 11 AM - 3 PM, The Commons, 2B23 (Community Ofrenda)

Día de los Muertos, a Mexican holiday spread over several days (for some starting around October 28 and ending by November 3), honors and celebrates the lives of deceased relatives and loved ones. Through the use of ofrendas (altars), cempasúchil (marigolds), foods, and other beautiful decorations, the beloved deceased are welcomed back to the land of the living for a few nights each year.

Join us for two collaborative activities as we prepare our community ofrenda!

Activity 1: Catrina Dolls, Papel Picado, and Loteria

Location: Women's, Gender, and Equity Center (WGEC) (The Commons, 004)

Activity: Stop by the WGEC to make and decorate Catrina dolls and papel picado. This is a space where you can prepare your creation to be placed on the main ofrenda in The Mosaic Center or to bring home to your own ofrenda. Guests can also learn how to play Loteria. Snacks and candy will be provided.

Activity 2: Memorial Card/Frame Creation & Ofrenda

Location: The Mosaic Center (The Commons, 2B23)

Activity: Visit The Mosaic Center to create personalized memorial cards and hang them in our marigold strands on the ofrenda. Guests can also paint and decorate their own photo frame for their loved one. A photo printer will be available to print out a picture to add to the frame. Frames can be picked up again on November 2 if you choose to leave them on the ofrenda. Snacks and drinks will be provided.

The ofrenda will be up in The Mosaic Center from Thursday 10/29 through Monday 11/2. Photo frames for decoration will be available as supplies last. Memorial cards will be available until November 2.
