Date

October 1, 2026 – Oct 21, 2026 (All Day Event)

Description

The Clothesline Project at UMBC is displayed in October for Intimate Partner Violence Awareness Month.
The Clothesline Project is an opportunity for survivors of power based violence to express their emotions by decorating a shirt to give voice to their experience. These shirts are then hung on a clothesline as a public testimony to the problem of sexual and gendered violence.
Shirt-making supplies are going to be available for survivors to create a shirt for the Clothesline Project as part of their healing process from October 1st-21st during WGEC hours (Mon-Thurs, 9:30-5pm, Fri 10-3).
Display will be on October 22nd.
*Please note: The Clothesline Project is intended to make visible the experiences of people impacted by sexual assault and relationship violence. We ask that only those who identify as survivors or who are close to someone who is a survivor make t-shirts to be displayed in the Project*
If you have any questions, concerns, or want to know more about the event, email us at womenscenter@umbc.edu.

T-shirts and craft supplies will be laid out in the center,
available to use at any time throughout the day. If you need a more private or quiet space, please see a
WGEC staff member and we’ll try our best to accommodate
your needs.

When you’re done, you can leave your shirt on the table to
dry, or bring it directly to a WGEC staff member. Please respect our space by cleaning up the area and

shirt-making supplies after you are finished. If you need to talk to someone for support or resources,
please see a WGEC staff member for assistance.*** Please note: The Clothesline Project is intended to make visible the
experiences of people directly impacted by relationship violence. ***
